The University of California, Riverside (UCR) invites applications for a career Academic Coordinator position to manage and administer a new state-of-the-art Human Embryonic Stem Cell (hESC) Core Facility associated with the UCR Stem Cell Center. The Academic Coordinator will provide training and expertise in all aspects of hESC biology to new and established researchers in the field of hESC at UCR and other local institutions. UCR, a dynamic and growing campus, is currently home to more than 30 faculty who bring interdisciplinary approaches to stem cell biology and who represent 12 graduate programs in three colleges (Natural and Agricultural Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and engineering) and the Division of Biomedical Sciences. UCR is a member of the Inland Empire Stem Cell Consortium and UCR will open a new Medical School in September 2013. Candidates for the Academic Coordinator position must hold a PhD or Masters degree in a field relevant to hESC biology and must bring management experience to the position; postdoctoral experience will be useful but is not required. The successful applicant is expected to have experience with cell culture, including maintenance of hESC. Additional experience in immunocytochemistry, histology and karyotype analysis, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and molecular biology is desirable. The responsibilities include management of the core facility, maintenance of hESC lines, organizing and running training activities and workshops, developing and establishing new technologies, developing standard operating procedures, and aiding hESC investigators. The successful applicant must display strong interpersonal skills, be an effective communicator, and be able to set priorities and work independently.

Appointment and salary is anticipated in the Academic Coordinator series.
