Hello! My name is Tiffany Satoorian and I am a Ph.D. graduate student in the Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology Graduate Program. I am under the guidance of Dr. Michael Pirrung and Dr. Nicole zur Nieden, and we are investigating the effect of various chemical compounds on stem cells. I am interested in increasing single cell survival of human embryonic stem cells using small molecules.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Undergraduate Research (January 2006 – June 2006):
As an undergraduate student, I volunteered in the Center for the Study of Macular Degeneration (CSMD) at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I gained a lot of experience with sterile cell culture techniques.
Advisor: Dr. Lincoln V. Johnson, University of California, Santa Barbara

Graduate Research (May 2007 – Present):
Currently, I am culturing the H1 human embryonic stem cell line from WiCell. I am working on the development of culture conditions that enhance single cell survival.
Advisors: Dr. Michael Pirrung and Dr. Nicole zur Nieden, University of California, Riverside
